NOGA INCREASES HANDICAP REVISIONS IN 2008

In an effort to improve the game of golf in northern Ohio, the Northern Ohio Golf Association has added revision dates to this year’s handicap season. Beginning in 2008, clubs will utilize 16 handicap revisions, 20 including off-season revisions, compared to 13 revisions in 2007. The additional revisions will allow for handicaps to be revised once every two weeks during the active season (the USGA® maximum) and will eliminate the three week interval between revisions during the spring and fall months. Also, for those golfers taking vacation or spending time in warmer climates, NOGA has added monthly inactive season revisions so your handicap can be updated during the offseason.

In addition to increasing the number of revisions for 2008, NOGA has also moved the cutoff date to post scores during a revision week from Thursday to Tuesday, with the new effective date falling on Wednesday instead of Friday. This should be a welcome change for golf clubs that in the past had to wait till Friday morning to get handicaps updated for weekend groups or tournaments. Handicaps will now be updated on Tuesday night giving staff an extra few days to complete their tournament set-up using the updated handicaps.

For NOGA members, the changes to the revision schedule translate into added value for your handicaps. Instead of 13 handicap revisions over the seven month active season, members will now enjoy 16 revisions over the same period along with four inactive season revisions. The end result means handicap revisions every two weeks during the active season (the USGA® maximum) and the most current handicaps for golfers in northern Ohio.
